Notes:

A. tuberosa has a tuberous and firborous root system. The tuber is a large, specialized root that stores energy. As a result of this tuberous system, A. tuberosa is incredibly drought tolerant. Even if the foliage above dies due to the drought, the plant itself will likely survive and return under better conditions. While the foliage isn’t too appealing to female monarchs for egg laying (due to the many hairs on the stem and leaves), the nectar and pollen are attractive to butterflies, bees, wasps, and flies.
